October 2020 Update
Dear Friends, Partners, and Co-workers in Christ Jesus,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
Grace to you and peace from our father and the Lord Jesus Christ, “Philippians 1:2”.
On behalf of the entire team of Christ Gospel Fellowship Church of Rwanda and in particular the staff of ABC Kids, we are so thankful to the Lord for His Love and endless Mercy to us. Glory be to His Holy Name; now and forever.
As it has been always, we have so many reasons to be thankful to God in our everyday life as the Word of God says, “Rejoice in the Lord always, I say it again; Rejoice” Philippians 4:4.
This is not because all situations are well with people always, but because we have a greater God who is always above all the situations and has full control over every step in life.
It’s almost seven months since the pandemic disease of COVID-19 broke out so abruptly and everything turned around worldwide including of course people’s life styles; physically, socially and economically. Various measures of prevention have been put in place and served to certain extents, and we believe much more efforts are being made. It’s everyone’s initiative to stand and fight against the spread of this deadly virus and we believe by the grace of God, one day it will be gone forever.
Current situation: So far we are thankful to God for the progress being made country-wide; here in Rwanda the cases of people being healed are more than the numbers of infected ones. We have hope that if this progress is maintained then the future is promising. Various industries have resumed, such as tourism industry and transport, churches have re-opened and more are soon opening.
In this month of October, schools are scheduled to re-open starting from Universities and High schools. The school calendars will be out soon. For Primary schools the time for re-opening is not yet set out or announced.
About ABC Kids Program: This time of unpredicted long vacation has been so challenging not only to children but also to parents. Some children especially teenagers have found it difficult to stay at home, most of them obviously engage in helping parents in doing housework but also others try to find where they can be casually hired so that they can provide some help to their families alongside following school lessons on radios and televisions depending on where one gets quick access.

During this time we were able to visit some of the children at their homes.
Below are some of these children visited doing various activities.
Below are some of these children visited doing various activities.
This is Esther Mutoni and her brother Prince Shyaka. Esther is temporarily hired by her neighbor; she sells some kids’ clothes at the nearby local market where she is paid little money to support her family. Her brother Prince Shyaka keeps at home helping her mother do the house work like cleaning the house washing dishes.
Albert Nahimana helping his father in baking. Albert’s father had started a small home project of making Mandazi and when schools closed due to COVID-19 he engaged in baking and his father says Albert is helping him a lot.
Daniel Nsabiyera making bricks (molding). He is the only child in his family who has been able to attend school to this level and he waits on the Lord for a miracle to continue with University. His mother’s health is not good and he has to work hard and provide small support to the family.
Moses Mugisha is the first born in a family of five children. He is a very responsible young boy and very determined to transform his family when he grows up and he always tries to apply the little knowledge he gets from school. He has planted various fruits in a small garden near his house. From left you can see a pawpaw ( papaya tree), passion fruits in the middle and a mango tree. In the middle picture, Moses is digging small holes for maize planting and last he is planting maize (corn) seeds. He also has some chickens at home that lay eggs. Moses helps his parents to prepare a balanced diet that serves nutrition purposes. He does all his work early morning and saves time to follow up his school lessons on the radio program as set up for them. Same as other children who try to do some part time jobs, they make sure that the lessons’ schedules are not interrupted where possible.
Thanksgiving to God: We are so thankful to God because of His mighty Love and Mercy. He has been there for His people and His promises not only to be with us but also to carry us on His back to the end; Isiah 46: 3-4
We also thank God that some churches have re-opened and hope for more to re open soon.
